6 Ways That Having Teenagers Will Make You More Spiritual

Having Teenagers Will Make You More Religious

Being a parent will make you believe in a higher power, or at least a higher flower.

___

It will happen, in stealth, you will slowly take on faith. You have to. Or they win. You will find yourself drawn to a tribe that will take you in: The Parentager tribe. They are the invisible tribe that asks nothing of you and offers membership, comfort and a place to vent.

Having two teenagers has a way of making you religious.

You pray more, you look up to the sky, and you hold up your hands. Teenagers take you to your limits, they drop you off, lock the doors and then they drive away. Not that they hate you.

On the contrary, your teenagers love you and they know they need you: Your keys, your wallet, your wisdom and yes, even your stories. But they want them on their own terms. That is what makes it all so difficult for teenagers.

Life rolls out on it’s own terms and part of the teenage angst is figuring out that they are not the center of the world.

True story: In one sentence, our son blamed me for not having the right kind of snack food, that his homework was not done on time and for not being able to have enough computer-game time. Parents, you will know you that are well into your season of teenage angst when you become all-powerful (aka, you will be blamed for everything).

Hold onto the memories

Parents, you will know you that are well into your season of teenage angst when you become all-powerful (aka, you will be blamed for everything).

Don’t let anyone tell you that you are losing your memory because of age. It’s Google’s fault. All of the GIF’s, the Meme’s and the celebrity detox diets are filling your head. You have no room for anything else. This is why memories are so important, and why you should use less Google.

When you have teenage-spirit all up in your face (aka sweaty-and-bad-breathy teenagers), you need to hold onto the good memories, the sweet and innocent times.

Trust me, the memories will get you through. They will become your mantra. Yes, your little child is long gone. Just know that this is not the end of things.

This is not the Zombie apocalypse

Teenage-hood is NOT the Zombie apocalypse. It’s just a phase. A long, drawn out, wrinkle-inspiring, grey-hair causing phase…

Teenage-hood is NOT the Zombie apocalypse. It’s just a phase. A long, drawn out, wrinkle-inspiring, grey-hair causing phase… No, I’m not bitter. I’m trying to be better. That’s why I write. For revenge.

6 Ways that having teenagers will make you more religious:

  1. You will connect with a larger Tribe, or you will be assimilated
  2. You will close your eyes and pray more
  3. You will lift up your hands
  4. You will look up to the sky
  5. You will become all-powerful and be blamed for all manner of issues
  6. You will meditate on the innocent memories, you need to, trust me.

Mom and Dad, embrace it. We are your tribe. Join the Parentager Tribe. This is your place to listen, vent and know that you are not crazy. There is light and there is life after teenagers.
